Our Client

Jenbacher designs and manufactures gas engines and cogeneration modules in the Austrian city of Jenbach, Tirol.

Jenbacher came from the old Jenbacher Werke, founded I 1959, which manufactured gas, diesel and locomotive engines.

In 2003, the company was acquired by General Electric. More recently, in late 2018 the company joined INNIO and was renamed INNIO Jenbacher GmbH & Co.

Since its foundation, Jenbacher has built more than 52 000 gas engines that have been installed in more than 100 countries.

The project

SUCH-Dalkia launched the tender for the construction of the São João Hospital Trigeneration Center, in Porto.

In partnership with our client GE Jenbacher, we developed the project, supplied and installed the equipment and systems complementary to the installation of the three “GE JENBACHER” generator sets, model J616 GS-F11.
 

The scope of the project included the following main systems and equipment:

- Engine exhaust heat recovery system, comprising, among others, three Energest® recovery boilers of the “Gastubular” type, with a single passage of gases with a horizontal disposition, with economizer superimposed on the exit, designed for the production of 1500 Kg/h saturated steam at 8 bar, using engine exhaust gases, from Otto cycle, to natural gas, GE Jenbacher J616 GS-F11.

- Cooling system of the high temperature circuit of the engines, in which na aero-cooler with nominal thermal power of 990.7 kW was installed;

- Colling system of the low temperature circuit of the engines, including a cooling tower with a rated thermal power of 371 kW and a water / water plate heat exchanger with a rated thermal power of 1025 kW;

- Glycolated water preparation, filling and collection system, including solution storage tank and transfer pump;

- Lubrificating oil storage and transfer system;

- Soundproofing copies and ventilation systems for generator sets;

- Eletrical command and control interconnections between the generator sets and the control room, as well as MV power cables between the group and group switch. A cabinet was included containing the equipment for power, protection, command and control of the operation of the Recovery Boilers and auxiliary equipment;

- Three chimneys constituted by DN700 pipes in stainless steel 1.4301 (AISI 304) insulated with 50 mm of 100 kg/m3 rock wool coated with aluminum, unloading their own weight on the ground and guiding efforts in the concrete structure.

The Trigeneration Central started operating at the end of 2010, starting to produce electricity for injection into the electrical network and being responsible for the supply of steam, hot water and cold water to the Hospital de São João.
